Profile

Jim Detjen grew up in Seattle, Washington. As a sports parent, his oldest son Elliott played basketball for national powerhouse Lone Peak High School in Highland, Utah. Known for his shooting skills (coached by Marty Haws), Elliott participated in a fundraiser for himself and his AAU teammates from West Africa, including Michigan State big man Mady Sissoko and Brigham Young University big man Fousseyni Traore, where he shot 114 consecutive free throws and 89/100 three-pointers…at age 15! He is now a student at Harvard University.

Jim's younger son Danny was captain of the storied Brighton High School Men’s Swim Team in Cottonwood Heights, Utah. Recognized as the 2022 Utah High School Athlete of the Year, five-time UHSAA high school swimming state champion, NISCA High School Academic All-American, USA Swimming Junior National participant, and team record holder, he remained undefeated and continued to be the highest point-scoring member of his championship team for all four high school years. As a member of the United States Air Force Academy Class of 2026, he now competes in both the freestyle and butterfly events for the NCAA Division 1 Falcons.

Jim's daughter Sofia is an award-winning American drummer and is pursuing advanced studies at Harvard University and Berklee College of Music in the esteemed Harvard-Berklee Dual Degree Program.

Jim has almost a decade of experience in national championship-level high school basketball team administration and a professional career that spans over 25 years, encompassing strategy, creative, operations, and leadership. Within the sports industry, Jim has played an important role in two national powerhouse basketball programs, Lone Peak High School and Wasatch Academy in Mt. Pleasant, Utah (NIBC), earning four straight GEICO HS Basketball National Championship berths in 2018 and 2019, 2020, 2021, respectively. Currently, Jim is the President & CEO of Katapult Sport & Entertainment Group, as well as the GM & Director of Basketball for Anthem Prep in South Jordan, Utah. He is also responsible for several premier international basketball camps in partnership with Wasatch Academy Head Coach Paul Peterson.

Jim is married to Reina (25 years). They met in Washington D.C. and started their family after finishing college and graduate school. Believing that it takes a village to raise an athlete, early on they sought out coaches who would be a positive mentor, friend, and confidant to their three children, never stopping to research and learn, and always looking outside of the box to see what others might have to offer. They embraced everyone involved in their children’s' passion, which has resulted in a rewarding and positive learning life experience, including enduring relationships that will stand the test of time.
